What started as building, owning, and governing Peninsula Hospital, has today developed into bringing health-focused programs and services to the community, to help residents achieve their optimal health. Cheryl Fama joined the Peninsula Health Care District as its Chief Executive Officer on May 1, 2007.
A lifetime resident of San Mateo County, Ms. Fama spent her professional life in health care, starting as a critical care nurse, retiring from hospitals as the President/CEO of Saint Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco, and now focusing on community-based health and wellness for the Peninsula Health Care District.
Ms. Fama leads with an upstream approach and commitment to advancing strategies that build community capacity and capabilities. She has nurtured cross-sector partnerships throughout and beyond the County, which have been instrumental in accelerating the mobilization of resources, especially during challenging times.
During her tenure, the District completed three strategic and financial planning processes, developed the Peninsula Wellness Community master plan, launched Sonrisas Dental Health, the PHCD Health & Fitness Center and The Trousdale assisted living/memory care community, and fortified existing community programs and services through strategic leadership and grants support.
Ms. Fama has served on a broad range of community and service organization boards and committees including the Association of California Healthcare Districts, the San Mateo County Commission on the Status of Women, San Mateo County Healthy Community Collaborative, San Mateo County Oral Health Coalition, San Mateo Leadership Program and Burlingame Rotary.
Ms. Fama holds a master’s degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, both from the University of San Francisco and still maintains an active RN license.
CFO & Board Treasurer, Peninsula Health Care District
Vickie Yee has over 15 years of accounting and finance experience and is currently the Chief Financial Officer and Board Treasurer at the Peninsula Health Care District. Her expertise includes budgeting, forecasting, accounting, and financial analysis.
Yee is responsible for all financial-related activities, stewardship of the company’s assets, and risk management operations of the company, to include the metrics, budgets, operational strategies, and the continuing oversight of internal controls to ensure the safeguard of assets. She plays a significant role in supporting entrepreneurial programs at the District, such as Sonrisas Dental Health, PHCD Health & Fitness Center, and The Trousdale, as well as for on-going initiatives and programs.
Before joining the District, Yee was the Controller at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco and RSF Social Finance, a non-profit financial service organization in the SF Presidio.
Yee received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from San Francisco State University. This year, she will be completing an MBA in Finance from Notre Dame de Namur University.
Vickie Yee brings her love of community and expertise in finance to various volunteer positions. Currently, she volunteers with Boy Scouts of America, Millbrae Troop 355, and serves as the Treasurer for the Troop.
Community Engagement Director, Peninsula Health Care District
Ashley McDevitt has been with the District since 2013 and is currently serving as Community Engagement Director. In her role, she develops, executes, and provides oversight of the District’s impact strategies, manages the District’s Community Grants Program, leads new program research and development activities related to multi-year impact programs, and participates in countywide health collaboratives and partnership building activities.
McDevitt works with a broad range of community stakeholders to ensure the District’s programs and services are developed to improve the health of the community. Her most recent accomplishments include: Board approval of the District’s 5-year Strategic Plan; launching the District’s first Youth Advisory Group (YAG); launching a Memory Café program in partnership with Burlingame Parks and Recreation; and completion of the Teen Mental Health Study with J. Gardner Center at Stanford University.
Ashley McDevitt earned her Master of Science degree in Health Services Administration from University of St. Francis in Illinois. She has more than 15 years of health care experience.
Business Operations Manager, Peninsula Health Care District
Stephanie Arevalo-Rodriguez has been with the District for three years, first as Executive Assistant to the Board and CEO then promoted to Business Operations Manager. In her current role, she provides property management and facilities support, as well as serves as Program Liaison and Website Manager.
During her tenure at the District, Arevalo-Rodriguez has been instrumental in managing 7 District properties, including supporting the programs and tenants occupying the properties. In addition, Arevalo-Rodriguez is responsible for the redesign of the District website for an improved end-user experience and the integration of software for Board document management. She is also responsible for management of the District’s social media presence.
Arevalo-Rodriguez thrives in establishing community and vendor partnerships. Recently, she completed the San Mateo County Leadership Program that provides a framework for engagement in the communities of San Mateo, Foster City, Burlingame, and Hillsborough.
Arevalo-Rodriguez earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Norte Dame de Namur University. Currently, she is completing a Master’s Degree in Public Administration.
Fitness Center Director, Peninsula Health Care District Health and Fitness Center
Michelle Marheineke has been with the District since 2018 and brings over 20 years of experience in the health and wellness industry. As the Fitness Center Director, Marheineke is accountable for developing, implementing and monitoring safe and efficient operations and programs.
Born and raised in Burlingame, Marheineke knew from a young age that she wanted to keep her roots in her hometown and work in a career that was self-rewarding and focused on helping others. After attaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from Arizona State University, Marheineke started her professional career as an Exercise Physiologist in Cardiac Rehab, with a specialty in older adult fitness.
Marheineke is passionate about going above and beyond for her Fitness Center community. Her empathetic and caring nature foster a special connection with her staff and members alike.
Executive Assistant to Board, CEO and Management Team, Peninsula Health Care District
Arisleyda (Aris) Payan has been with the Peninsula Health Care District since 2019, serving as Executive Assistant to Board, CEO and Management Team. In this vital role, she supports the team in executing on the vision and mission of the District, as well as ensures the smooth day-to-day operations at the District office.
Aris Payan contributes to a customer service and team-oriented culture. Her work requires strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills, interfacing daily with internal and external stakeholders. Among her responsibilities, Payan is responsible for compiling and distributing comprehensive and timely Board and committee meeting materials. She ensures meetings run smoothly and meeting minutes and documents are appropriately published and archived.
Payan’s professional and volunteer accomplishments draw on her communications knowledge and interest in engaging with the community.
Aris Payan received a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from California State University Channel Islands. She completed two Associates Degrees, in Social Science and Communications, at College of San Mateo.
